Toowoomba’s Australian World War II hero, Errol Jorgensen OAM MM was given full military honours at a Service of Thanksgiving at St James Anglican Church (21st August, 2009). Errol served with the 25th Battalion at the Battle of Milne Bay in 1942 and later on Bougainville. He was awarded his Military Medal for bravery during a Japanese assault on Slater’s Knoll. In civilian life, Errol was a devoted family man and active member of the community. He was instrumental in establishing the Milne Bay Military Museum in Toowoomba. Errol passed away on Monday 17th after a short illness. He was 88. www.news.com.au
